JMC Motor Australia is set to bring another dual-cab ute to the Australian market, marking a significant return for the Chinese brand. This move comes as a surprise to many, considering the brand's previous exit from the Australian market in 2018 due to slow sales and poor name recognition. However, with a renewed focus and a strong reputation for reliability, JMC is poised to make a comeback. The JMC Grand Avenue ute, based on the Dadao series co-developed with Ford, is now in government certification filings. It boasts a 2.5-liter turbo-diesel engine with 150kW of power and an 8-speed automatic transmission, offering a standard 18-inch wheel and a braked towing capacity of 3500kg. The payload is estimated at 870kg, and while torque figures are not listed, Chinese models with this engine have a torque of 500Nm. JMC Motor Australia CEO Danny Lenartic expresses confidence in the brand's value proposition, highlighting its second-best-selling status in China and its ability to withstand daily abuse. The company aims to differentiate itself by offering a range of Dadao models, including on- and off-road variants, as well as the Vigus Plus and Yuhu 7 utes. The Grand Avenue, in particular, stands out with its active safety features and a 12.8-inch touchscreen infotainment system, which can be upgraded to a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster. This model is already sold in Latin American and Middle Eastern markets and is expected to be available in Australia soon. JMC's return to the Australian market is a significant development, especially considering the brand's previous challenges. The company's focus on utes and its partnership with Ford position it as a strong contender in the Australian market, where it will compete against established brands like JAC, MG, BYD, Foton, GWM, and LDV. The introduction of the Grand Avenue and the potential for a more affordable budget model, like the Vigus Plus, could be a game-changer for JMC's success in Australia. The brand's previous experience in the market, combined with its current offerings, suggests a strategic approach to re-entering the Australian market. As JMC Motor Australia prepares to unveil its plans, the automotive industry eagerly awaits the brand's impact on the Australian ute segment.
